He was born in 1965 in Wisconsin and began his artistic career as a graphic designer before turning his attention to painting. Gerhartz's paintings are known for their luminous color, emotive brushwork, and sensitive portrayal of the human form.

Gerhartz's art is inspired by the work of the Old Masters, particularly the 19th-century French academic painters. His use of light and shadow is masterful, creating a sense of depth and atmosphere in his works.

One of Gerhartz's most famous paintings is "Megan," a portrait of a young woman with a wistful expression. In addition to his portraits and figurative works, Gerhartz is also known for his landscapes. His paintings of nature are often suffused with a sense of awe and wonder, as if he is capturing a moment of transcendence in the natural world. "Morning Light" is one such painting, with its luminous sky and misty trees evoking a sense of serenity and calm.
